AVID
What Is the AVID Program?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance for the underserved populations of students in the academic middle.
This wonderful program has been in existence for over 30 years and has been featured on 60 Minutes and in numerous magazines.
Who Is AVID For?
AVID is program for highly motivated students who are passing their classes and the AIMS tests, but want to push themselves to be on the college track. They’re good students who want to be the best.
AVID students take a year-long elective where they learn and practice organization, note-taking skills, critical reading, math applications, and most importantly, how to work through their academic struggles.
AVID students are required to take either Honors English or advanced math (Pre-algebra in 7th or Algebra I/II in 8th).
For incoming 7th graders, the applications are sent to the sixth grade teachers of the feeder schools. They are due by March 1st For current students, we add students to the program each semester after an application process.
